Oxygen Infusion Mini Facial

About two weeks ago I mentioned in a post that I had taken a few days off and during that time off had gone to The Red Door Spa and gotten a mini facial. I literally have not had a moment to sit down and write about that day until today. #oops

About two weeks ago I was at my parents house finishing a short run on their treadmill when my mom asked if I wanted to go get a facial with her. We both had Thursday and Friday off so I figured, why not? My mom made an appointment at The Red Door Spa for two Oxygen Infusion Mini facials. I’ve never had a facial before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. My mom will get facials every now and then; her skin looks amazing and even my husband regularly mentions my mom looks younger than she is. My mom has always lectured me on the importance of skin care and sunscreen, saying proper skin care is vital for your health, physical appearance and helps you look younger longer… and you know what, she’s right.

According to The Red Door Spa website, the facial is, “Facial cleansing and toning are followed by a quick and steady mist of pressurized oxygen delivered deep into the cellular layers of the skin, providing a healthy and youthful glow. ” The facial involved a Microdermabrasion, which stripped away any dead skin, an oxygen infusion serum, and a pumpkin enzyme exfoliator. My technician also gave me, what seemed like, 5 minutes of a steady mist of pressurized oxygen, which felt like warm steam. The technician then used a “zapping wand” ( which felt like a series of static electric shocks) to zap my chin area. The technician said the zapping wand killed bacteria and dried up extra oils in the skin. I am actually really glad she used this wand because I tend to break out in my chin area-which is my fault because I’m constantly resting my chin in my hand.

After the 30 minute facial my face felt weird, but in a good way. My face felt very clean and light. I did get a good laugh when I went back into the locker room to change and saw my self in the mirror. I looked a little sweaty/oily and red, like I’d just been outside for a few hours sweating my butt off. My mom and I paid and then decided to head over the Baker’s Crust for lunch followed by a tiny bit of shopping. All in all, it was a great day spent with my mom.

I really did enjoy my first facial and told John I would like to get another one in a few months. It really wasn’t until the next day I saw how amazing my skin looked and felt. I did not really understand the importance of skin care until this past year. I have always been lucky with my skin and didn’t have to worry about it or do too much. I only ever had the occasional blemish or skin issue, usually stress related. But when I turned 27 two years ago I noticed I was breaking out more. I didn’t really do anything because I wasn’t sure what to do. My skin got really bad for a while (stress and age/hormones), but over the last year through trial and error and research I feel like I have my skin issues under control again. The lesson: don’t neglect your skin!  Skin care is well worth your time and money and you will appreciate later in life when your skin still looks fresh, youthful and healthy

Red Door Spa has a variety of facials, and maybe next time I’ll try a different one. You can check out all their facials here.

Blue and White

blue and white                         Football Tee / Pom Pom Shorts / Sandals / Bag / Necklace

I bought this “football” tee from J. Crew last week and I’m kind of obsessed with it. I love stripes, which is pretty much what sold me on this tee in the first place, but the bonus is the loose, but flattering fit. The tee also happens to be super soft which I think will be great for all year around. As for the pom pom shorts, with the promotion J. Crew was running the shorts ended up being a whopping $9! How could I say no? I love the cute little pom poms alone the bottom which make these more than just a white pair of shorts. Details my friends; it’s all about the details. Additionally, these shorts are thicker, which means they are not see through. I love wearing white pants and shorts in the spring and summer, but a constant worry for me is whether the pants or shorts I’m wearing are see through, or suddenly become see through once I’m out in the sun. The slightly thicker material and lining on these shorts means you are good to go!

I’m trying, unsuccessfully, to refrain from buying any more clothes until fall officially begins. Fall is my favorite season and fall clothes also happens to be my favorite clothes to buy. I’m currently saving up for a pair of Tory Burch boots, but all these end of summer sales keep getting in the way. Maybe I’ll just hide my computer for  a few weeks.

Have a Happy Monday!

A Day Off

I haven’t had a day off since March. Well, my office was closed for July 4th the Friday before, but otherwise, no time off. Obviously I have been feeling a bit burnt out, and I desperately needed a day or two away from work. I have a fair amount of PTO left so I decided to take off Thursday and Friday. I had all these plans for Thursday which ended up changing (right down to the sleeping in) because John bought a car.

We had casually been talking about him getting a new car, but nothing was really set in stone. Then a few nights ago John found a Volvo S80 for an amazing price and set out with my dad to test drive it on Tuesday night. Thursday we ended up buying the car which turned into, what felt like, an all day ordeal. No joke. From 8:30am until about 3pm we were doing car purchasing related activities (taking the potential car to our own mechanic, getting quotes on his car, driving back and forth between dealers to see what other cars were available) and I won’t lie, I was not happy about it. I hate purchasing cars or electronics and I much prefer John just bring home whatever it is he’s buying.

After we got John his new car, I met some friends for lunch then ran a few errands. I had every intention of cooking, but because I got such a late start to my day, I didn’t get home until almost 7pm. Luckily I had decided to stop and get John some tacos at Rico’s so I didn’t have to worry about cooking.

Friday I did get to sleep in! John took Otis for a walk before he left for work which meant I got to sleep in until about 10am. It was glorious. Around 12:30pm my mom came and picked me up for a mother daughter day, I guess you can call it. We went to Red Door Spa and got mini Oxygen Infusion Facials (more to come on that) then enjoyed lunch at Baker’s Crust, walked around the mall a little, and then came home. I even managed to make a pot roast and brown rice for dinner. I cheated with dessert and stopped The Cheesecake Factory and got us each a slice of our favorite cheesecake. Then after a nice long walk, I stayed up late reading and doing a little online shopping. J. Crew was running this amazing sale of an additional 40-75% off sale items when you use your J.Crew credit card. Typically I don’t like to use my J. Crew credit card for anything, but I couldn’t pass this deal up! Below is a list of the items I bought. Can you tell I like stripes and can you believe I got all of that for just $85!!!! What an amazing and relaxing day. It was just what I wanted.

The rest of the weekend went by as normal, cleaning, running on the treadmill, taking Otis for walks, just hanging out. I’m really glad I decided to take off two days and those two days happened to be the same days my mom had taken off as well and we got to hang out. At my last job I was never able to really take any time off from work. So I’m still getting used to having all this PTO, but after Friday I can’t say I’m hating it. Happy Monday!
