Not Spring, but Summer

I’ve seen many other bloggers writing about how excited they are for Spring and all the flowers and warm weather. Not me. I’m excited for warmer weather, eating dinner outside, that it is still light out when I get home from work, taking Otis on long walks, but not Spring. My lack of excitement is because I have horrible allergies. We are talking I can’t even go outside because I feel like I’ll sneeze myself to death. So instead, I’m ready for warm Summer evenings with those perfect breezes that come through just at the right moment. In lute of posting an ideal Spring outfit, I thought I would post my ideal dressy/casual summer outfit. My sister is graduating from Pharmacy school in May (there is a really nice lunch afterwards at a hotel) and I’m toying with the idea of wearing this dress.  If anyone has dress ideas for a Pharmacy school graduation, please share.

High and Low Madewell

About this time last year I saw the most amazing top at Madewell. It’s called the Linen Folktale blouse and I wanted it so bad, in both colors. Sadly the top was $98 and I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that amount of money on a single shirt. I told myself it would go on sale and I could buy it then. By the time the blouse finally did go on sale, the most perfect top ever was sold out in all sizes in both colors. #firstworldproblems, right? Ever since then I’ve be combing ebay, poshmark, tradesy, threadflip, you name it, trying to find this blouse in the red or white. The few that have popped up on ebay sell for between $75 and $90 and again, I just can’t seem to justify that.

So what’s the point of this inconsequential story? Well, yesterday I was reading one of my favorite blogs, The Northeast Girl, and she was showing off this adorable new navy embroidered dress she got from Forever 21. TNEG looked so cute in the dress I really felt I needed it too. For whatever reason after finding the dress online I decided to browse the site, mostly out of boredom. Very rarely have I bought anything from Forever 21. I mean, we are talking under 5 times. I prefer to invest in my clothing and buy quality pieces; the whole quality over quantity idea, and, to me, Forever 21 just seems cheap and trendy.  While looking through the tops and blouses I found a top that is almost identical to the Madewell Folktale blouse!!!! I’ve been scouring the earth for this one top for almost a year, so I couldn’t not order it. I’m so excited for this cute spring and summer top to arrive. Below are pictures of the Madewell top (left) and the Forever 21 top (right), a true high vs. low deal going on here. I’m just so excited I felt I needed to share. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday eve!

Lindley Park Filling Station

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! I’m so ready for the weekend. I know, I know I say this every week.  I plan on, hopefully, doing a whole lot of nothing. Last weekend was pretty low key for me and the hubby. We had dinner with John’s mom at a restaurant called Lindly Park Filling Station and man is that place delicious. John’s mom got the Chapman Street burger (Angus burger, grass fed, LPFS Pimento Cheese, and Bacon on a Potato Roll), I got the Lindell (Angus burger, grass fed, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Buttermilk Chive Ranch, Lettuce, and Tomato on a Potato Roll) and John, surprisingly, got the Springwood (Hot Pastrami, Spicy Dijon Mustard, and Swiss cheese on a Toasted Marble Rye). If you are ever in Greensboro, NC, you must eat here. There are so many choices and everything is really good. We got there around 6pm on a Saturday and there wasn’t a wait, but by the time we left around 8pm it was starting to get really busy. For those of you who like to eat outside, there is a great looking patio where you can sit as well. Sadly, we didn’t eat outside because it was starting to cool down to where it would not have been enjoyable meal. However, Spring is just around the corner so I plan on making good use out of that patio! Here is a link to their menu. I think everything looks yummy.

In other news, I bought this amazing shirt from J. Crew this weekend (on sale!) and I’m pretty sure it’s my new favorite top, but I say this about everything I buy. Below is a set of how I’m wearing the top today. I think I may have mentioned this before or not, but I hate having my picture taken, I doge cameras like my life depends on it. I’m not terribly photogenic and I tend to look awkward in photos, but I’m cool with it, and that’s why you’ll rarely see me post an OOTD look. But I do love clothes and sharing the things I’ve bought and how I wear them. So hopefully these sets make up for the lack of photos.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to dress this top up? I’d love to hear them. Happy Wednesday!

A Weekend in RVA

Does anyone else ever feel like the weekend just..evaporates? Sometimes I am almost positive that the weekend never happened. John and I spent this past weekend in Richmond and it was pretty amazing. Saturday my parents “babysat” Otis so John and I could enjoy a day out.

3 monkeys

We started the day with brunch at 3 Monkey’s. If you are ever in Richmond, please, eat at 3 Monkey’s. It’s amazing and there really isn’t a bad item on the menu. I actually used to go to 3 Monkey’s regularly when I lived in Richmond after undergrad. I’ve tried or at least tasted (via friends) almost everything on the menu and I haven’t come across anything I dislike. A few of my favorites include French Toast (brunch), Crab Cake Sandwich, and the Fried Calamari. I think 3 Monkey’s is undergoing new management because a lot of my old favorites are no longer on the menu, such as the Tilapia Sandwich, and our waitress may have been brain dead. Seriously, the waitress seemed surprised when we wanted to order. Luckily we were there around 11am and there wasn’t really a crowd so we didn’t have to wait long for our food.  Oh, one more thing, the mix drinks come with these cute little plastic monkeys hanging off the rim! I used to keep some in a beer glass I got in Europe, but I think it’s now packed up at my parents’ house somewhere. I need to find those.

John and I spent the rest of the day just wandering around. We went to John’s favorite music store, Plan 9, then to Stony Point and picked up some dress pants for John at Banana Republic. John works for a company that requires more formal attire at work. Most days he wears a suit and tie, but on days he doesn’t feel like wearing a full suit he can wear dress pants, a collared shirt, tie and a sweater (when it chilly out).  About 90% of John’s wardrobe is from J. Crew, but recently while on a shopping trip, John discovered Banana Republic dress pants. Originally we bought one pair for a test run and John loved them so much that this past weekend we went back and got him two more pairs. John said they are very breathable (my words) and I am partial to the benefit of them being non-iron; some of the pants have a subtle pattern to make them a bit more interesting. One more thing, Banana Republic regularly runs discounts, right now its 30% off all full priced items. So if you feel as if an item is out of your price range or you just don’t want to spend a lot if you are trying Banana Republic  for the first time, just wait a few days and a special is guaranteed to pop up.  You can check out the Banana Republic dress pants here. I’m not sure which ones John has, but I’ll try and figure it out.

The rest of our weekend was pretty relaxing and enjoyable. I hope everyone else had a great weekend and this week goes by fast! #livingfortheweekend

Awful picture of my, but Otis looks cute

Awful picture of me, but Otis looks cute

P.S. I bought this shirt at J. Crew 3 weeks ago and have been wearing it non-stop since. It’s incredibly comfortable, slightly loser fitting, which I prefer for a more casual look, and is a marginally heavier weight. I really appreciate the slightly heavier weight because it means the white isn’t see through, so I don’t have to layer a tank under the shirt. Down the sleeve is a thicker stripe which adds a bit of interest to another wise basic stripe shirt.  This is definitely a shirt you will want to add to your closet. I already have my eye on the other two colors.
