Kate Middleton’s Military Look For Less by Banana Republic!

I love almost everything Kate Middleton wears, but personally I cannot currently afford the pieces she wears. Luckily, Kate is very down to earth and many of her pricier items are available in similar styles and for less; the beauty of clean simply lines and shapes. I wanted to try and recreate a military outfit she has worn twice (no kidding exact same outfit even down to the shoes); this is what I came up with. Thoughts?

New Skirt

I’ve been lusting after the Serene skirt from Anthropologie for about a month now, but just didn’t feel like spending $98 on it. It’s a beautiful skit, amazing quality, and unique looking without being out there AND I own nothing like it (I have a bad habit of buying things that look very similar or one style in several colors). Yesterday I noticed the skirt had gone on sale to $49.95! Clearly I had to buy it. I’m pretty sure I can carry this skirt into fall with a darker top, maybe a gray, and some tights and boots/booties.

There is another reason I am really excited about this skirt, I have been watching a dress and two tops at Madewell for sometime now and they both went on sale. Unfortunately I didn’t check back until it was too late and all sizes and colors were sold out in the tops and the dress. I keep checking back hoping someone has returned any of the items, but so far no luck. I know it’s just clothes, but I’ve been so bummed out because I really wanted them. Live and learn. However, this skirt does kinda make up for it. Happy Thursday, ya’ll! It’s almost the weekend, just one more day!

Master Bedroom Inspiration + Wanting to Move

The next time John and I move I’m going to redecorate our bedroom. And this is what it’s going to look like. photo (3)

John’s parents are thinking about moving and have promised we can have the king size bed and mattress in their spare room since they can’t take it with them; we are very excited. We’ve been looking into buying a bigger bed, but obviously we are now going to wait. Bed frames are never terribly expensive, but the mattresses are and that is what’s really put a hold on us making the purchase. Once we get the new bed I have a great excuse to redecorate our room because we only have a Full size bed now and our sheets and bedspread won’t fit on a king size bed. Not that I need a reason really, but it never hurts to have a  reason.

Side note on moving, John and I just moved two months ago, but we would really love to be in Richmond or the D.C area. While I love our new place, and I really do, I can’t help but day dream about what our lives would be like back in Virginia. Anyone want to hire a guy with a law degree? He’s handsome, a hard worker, gets along with everyone and is nice too.

New Patio Furniture + A Weekend at Home

This weekend was the best weekend I’ve had in a long time. For the last few weekends, John and I have been insanely busy and I was left feeling like I had not even had a weekend. On Saturday, I slept in and then we went to Target and got new patio furniture! This purchase is actually a really big deal. John and I moved into our new place about 2 months ago and were really excited to know we were going to have fenced in “backyard” and small patio. John and I have been saving up for a new couch, but we decided we needed to buy patio furniture first, because well, who doesn’t want to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather while it’s still around?

Once we had decided to buy patio furniture I begin searching online to compare prices. I knew we wanted 4 chairs, a table, and umbrella, but I also knew we didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg. In my perfect world I would have just gone to Pottery Barn or Home Depot, but then there is reality. John mentioned that around early August is when summer items start going on sale because companies want to bring in back to school stuff. About two weeks ago John was in Target ( our set is sold out online but here are a few others) and spotted a patio set on sale for $97.50. It was exactly what we wanted and included 4 chairs, an umbrella, and table! I knew we could get it for cheaper though, and here’s how we did it.

First, John and I have the Target Red Debit card and we save 5% on every purchase. Then, we received a 10% off your entire purchase card in the mail from moving and having our address forwarded (no idea why but we get one of those every time we move, no complaints). In the paper I found a 10% off Target outdoor equipment, I wasn’t sure if this coupon would work, but thought I’d bring it just in case, it did work. Finally, I had a $10 gift card from points I’d earned on Swagbucks. So, 25% off and a $10 gift card= $63 before tax. Not too shabby for a set that was originally $140. Below is a picture I snapped of our new patio set all set up and ready to go. John and I ate dinner outside Saturday and Sunday night and it was pretty amazing. I can’t wait for more outdoor dinner nights. Now we just need a little grill.

Besides getting the patio furniture, John and I spend a lot of time relaxing. Saturday we got the patio furniture, did some relaxing and reading outside, had dinner outside, took Otis on a long walk, then watched The Other Guys, which is hilarious. Sunday, I had to work in the morning, but was done by noon. Then John and I did a little cleaning, went to the pool, and ate dinner outside. I was sad that animation domination wasn’t on due to the pre-season football games. I don’t like to watch sports. I started to read Beautiful Creatures instead. How was your weekend?

P.S. Another positive to eating outside, Otis can play and dig tons of holes in the dirt, then when he comes inside he’s exhausted and sleeps through the night.

Booties, Booties, Rockin’ Everywhere

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love Fall and I love Fall clothing. This year I am on a quest to find the perfect pair of booties. I don’t own any and it’s because I’ve never found THE pair. This year I am determined to buy a pair. I’m super picky about shoes and I have a small foot, both of which make for tough shoe shopping. I’m sure it’s why I don’t actually own that many pairs of shoes. Below are a few booties that have made it onto my maybe list. What do you think? Are any of these a yes? I’m open to suggestions! Thanks and have a great Friday!

Chilly Evenings + the Perfect Sweater

After about 4 days of rain, the weather has finally cleared up and boy is it beautiful. The temperature is absolutely amazing t at 76 degrees, the sun is shining, and it’s perfect for outdoor activities. During the day it’s still ideal weather for shorts or a dress, but in the evening it really does begin to get a little chilly. I’m a huge fan of layering and this weather gave me the perfect excuse to buy a new layering piece. I picked up this asymmetrical sweater from J. Crew over the weekend and I can’t get enough of it. It’s perfect for these chilly evenings and will carry over well into fall and even winter. It is a little thicker, which I like, and the zippers make it more interesting than just a normal pullover. The color is actually even more amazing in person, the perfect shade of pink. And this is coming from someone who isn’t a huge fan of pink to begin with.

I’m so excited for the upcoming fall lines and I hope this weather sticks around so I can have an excuse to start buying all those fall sweaters, jackets, and blazers now. Happy Thursday!
